Syracuse community mourns the death of Johnny Begood, who lost his life after suffering multiple gunshot wounds

Syracuse, N.Y. — A deep sense of sadness has fallen over the Syracuse community following the tragic death of 51-year-old Johnny Begood, who was fatally shot Saturday night outside the Parkside Commons apartment complex.

According to police, officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. to the intersection of East Fayette and Allen streets after receiving a report that a man had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Johnny suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was unconscious and not breathing at the time officers reached him.

Johnny was rushed by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in an effort to save his life. Sadly, his injuries were too severe, and he later died at the hospital.

The news has left those who knew Johnny facing a painful reality that no family should ever have to endure. A life that should have continued with more memories, conversations, and moments with loved ones was instead brought to a sudden and devastating end.

The shooting scene was quickly secured as police officers and crime-scene investigators worked through the night to collect evidence. Bullet casings were discovered on the sidewalk, while nearby surveillance cameras reportedly captured a suspect running away from the area following the shooting.
