The Bristol community is heartbroken by the devastating overnight shooting and armed standoff in the Salem Drive area, where multiple people were reportedly found down during the violent incident and a suspect remained barricaded inside a hotel room as police worked to bring the situation under control.

Bristol, Va. — A terrifying overnight police incident involving gunfire, multiple victims, and an armed suspect barricaded inside a hotel room has left the Bristol community shaken and deeply concerned.

The incident began around 2:41 a.m. when police were called to the 130 block of Salem Drive after reports of shots fired. Dispatchers were told that an armed male suspect had reportedly entered a hotel room following a verbal altercation, with gunfire breaking out shortly afterward.

The first officer arrived just minutes later and reported a person down near the building. As the situation rapidly escalated, officers reported that two people were down and that the shooter remained at large. EMS personnel were instructed to stage away from the danger as officers attempted to secure the area.

By shortly before 3 a.m., SWAT resources and additional emergency personnel were being requested. At approximately 3:01 a.m., an officer urgently reported shots being fired, apparently from inside a room. Room 128 was identified as the possible location of the shooter.

The situation became increasingly dangerous as officers reported that the suspect was firing through the doorway and window, apparently toward police. Officers repeatedly requested armored vehicles while attempting to protect themselves and reach those who were injured.

The tense standoff continued for hours, with additional gunshots reported throughout the early morning. Police were reportedly unable to immediately reach victims because of the continuing gunfire and the suspect’s position inside the room.

At one point, officers reported that a female victim inside the original room was not breathing or responding, while another female outside was also described as not breathing or responding. However, the available overnight radio information does not establish their medical outcomes, and authorities had not provided confirmed details about their conditions in the information available.

Police continued surrounding the building as tactical teams, armored vehicles, a drone, a robot, bomb technicians, negotiators, and additional law-enforcement resources were brought to the scene. Other hotel rooms were evacuated as officers worked to keep residents away from the danger.

The suspect was reportedly identified by the first name Antonio during the incident. Police eventually deployed impact rounds into the room shortly before 5 a.m., and movement was later observed inside.

As the morning continued, tactical teams began evacuating portions of the third and fourth floors. After hours of uncertainty and danger, Bristol Virginia Police Department reported at approximately 9:03 a.m. that the suspect was in custody.

The incident remains a deeply disturbing event for everyone affected. Families and loved ones are now left waiting for confirmed information about those who were injured, while investigators work to determine exactly what led to the shooting and armed standoff.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this frightening incident, especially those who may have been injured and their families. As authorities continue their investigation, the community is left hoping for answers, healing, and peace after a night marked by fear and violence.
