McAllen community mourns the death of 64-year-old Jose Mexicano, who passed after a devastating three-truck crash on Interstate 20 in Martin County

 

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded early Friday morning in Martin County, Texas, when a three-truck collision on Interstate 20 claimed the life of 64-year-old Jose Mexicano of McAllen. His unexpected death has left those who knew him grieving and struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one following a devastating highway crash.

The collision happened at approximately 1 a.m. near eastbound mile marker 151. According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2022 International tractor-trailer was traveling westbound when it suffered a tire blowout. The truck then crossed the center median and entered the eastbound lanes, where it collided with two eastbound tractor-trailers.

Mexicano was the driver of one of the eastbound trucks involved in the crash. He was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital following the collision, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. His passing has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, and others who knew him.

The other two drivers involved in the crash were identified as 47-year-old Carlos Lopez of El Paso and 62-year-old Michael Washington of Odessa. Both men were also transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.
