Friday night turned into a heartbreaking one in Allen Township after Daniel Gutierrez, a 20-year-old Bethlehem man, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Weaversville Road. According to Pennsylvania State Police, Gutierrez was driving a 2020 Honda Civic northbound shortly before 10 p.m. when the vehicle reportedly entered the opposing lane while he attempted to pass several vehicles.

Investigators said that as the Civic crested a slight hill, Gutierrez encountered oncoming traffic and lost control while trying to return to the northbound lane. The vehicle then left the roadway, struck a utility pole and continued into a cornfield. The Civic overturned several times before finally coming to rest east of Weaversville Road.

Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office. In the aftermath, the roadway was closed for approximately four hours as authorities worked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the devastating crash.
