The Beverly, Kansas, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Debra Jean Stovall, 72, whose life was tragically taken in a devastating head-on collision along K-156 Highway in Ellsworth County.

According to authorities, the crash happened around the noon hour Thursday, approximately a quarter mile east of the Barton County line. A westbound Chevrolet Impala crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that was pulling a trailer. The impact caused the pickup to overturn and burst into flames.

Debra, who was driving the Chevrolet, was pronounced deceased as a result of the crash. Four people traveling in the pickup were injured and transported to hospitals in Ellsworth and Claflin. They were identified as 21-year-old Colton Thayne Madden of Saint George, 21-year-old Daniel Leonard Hammeke of Great Bend, 19-year-old Caleb Andrew Harder of Leawood, and 19-year-old Easton David Kaylor of Wichita. Some suffered suspected serious injuries, while others sustained possible injuries.

Authorities confirmed that everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.

But beyond the details of the collision is the profound loss of a woman remembered by many as a beautiful soul. Debra was described as someone who became a friend to nearly everyone she met, leaving warmth and kindness wherever she went.
