The Bowie community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 69-year-old Deborah Saffran, who tragically died Wednesday afternoon after a devastating collision on 9th Street. A life that had been filled with years of memories, relationships, and moments with loved ones came to a sudden and painful end, leaving those who knew Deborah facing a loss they never expected.

The fatal crash occurred on August 26, 2026, after officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Lanham Severn Road and Driscoll Drive. Police said the driver initially stopped but then fled toward 9th Street. Officers were advised to stop additional attempts to pursue the fleeing vehicle.

Approximately half a mile from the original traffic stop, the suspect’s vehicle crossed the double yellow lines and crashed into Deborah’s car. She died at the scene. A third vehicle was also struck, although that driver was not injured. The fleeing driver was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit will refer the completed investigation to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges. Investigators are also asking anyone with witness information, dashcam footage, or home surveillance video to come forward.
