A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded at Lake Monroe on Sunday, August 16, when 58-year-old Jeffrey Cox of Indianapolis lost his life after going missing while boating with a group. What began as a day on the water ended in devastating circumstances, leaving those around him facing the painful reality of an unexpected loss.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana conservation officers responded to Lake Monroe shortly before 4 p.m. after receiving a report that an unconscious person had been pulled from the water. The lake, located about 10 miles southeast of Bloomington, became the scene of a tragic recovery effort.

Cox had been boating with a group when he went missing while the boat was anchored. For approximately five to ten minutes, those with him could not locate him. He was eventually found unresponsive near the boat.
