With profound sadness, family, friends, and members of the Mesa County community are mourning the loss of 35-year-old Joey Hampton, whose life was tragically cut short following a fatal hit-and-run crash on Highway 139 south of Loma, Colorado, early Monday morning.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the heartbreaking incident occurred at approximately 2:12 a.m. near milepost 1 on Highway 139. Preliminary information indicates that Joey was in the middle of the northbound lane when he was struck by an unknown light-colored SUV traveling northbound.

Investigators reported that Joey was dragged approximately 130 feet before the vehicle continued north and fled the scene. He was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save his life and the medical care he received, Joey later died from his injuries.
