According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of SE Evangeline Thruway near Jefferson Boulevard at approximately 12:21 a.m. after reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle.

Investigators said a truck was traveling northbound on the Evangeline Thruway when, for reasons that remain unknown, it suddenly left the roadway and entered the sidewalk. The vehicle struck Davis, who was walking in the area, before returning to the roadway and continuing north. The truck later veered off the road again, this time striking several utility poles before eventually coming to a stop near the intersection of North Magnolia Street and East Simcoe Street.

Despite the emergency response, Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. His sudden passing has left another family and community facing the devastating consequences of a tragic roadway incident.
