Heavy hearts surround the community following the sudden death of Ian Frye, 49, of Christine, who was killed in a devastating early-morning crash in Cass County. According to the North Dakota State Patrol, the collision happened shortly after midnight Sunday at the intersection of Cass County Road 14 and County Road 81.

Authorities said the incident began around 12:15 a.m., when a state trooper attempted to stop a BMW M550xi reportedly traveling 109 mph in a 55-mph zone. The BMW, driven by 19-year-old Cornelio Vasquez IV of Grand Forks, allegedly fled from the traffic stop, traveling eastbound on County Road 14.

Investigators said the vehicle later turned off its headlights and disregarded a stop sign at the intersection with County Road 81. At that point, the BMW collided with a Honda Accord driven by Frye, who was traveling southbound on County Road 81.

The impact proved fatal for Frye, who died at the scene.

The sudden loss of Ian has left loved ones facing a painful reality that no family expects to experience. At 49 years old, Frye’s life was taken in a matter of moments, leaving behind memories, relationships, and a future that will now never unfold as expected.
