The Alto Pass community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 20-year-old Mariana Fabian, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 51 near DeSoto

According to crash reports, Mariana Fabian was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 51 in a silver Nissan Versa when a northbound vehicle reportedly crossed the centerline and entered her lane. The two vehicles collided in a head-on offset crash, sending Mariana’s Nissan off the shoulder of the highway.

The impact caused her vehicle to overturn as it left the roadway, eventually coming to rest upside down in the nearby area. First responders rushed to the scene and worked to save Mariana, but her injuries were too severe. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deadly collision. At this time, authorities have not released information about the other driver involved or what may have caused the vehicle to cross into Mariana’s lane.

The crash brought a painful interruption to the highway as deputies and emergency personnel worked at the scene and gathered information about what had happened. Behind the investigation, however, was a young woman whose life had suddenly and tragically come to an end.
