The Morgan City is heartbroken by the death of Brenda Bernucho, 65, who passed following a suspected act of violence

 

The Morgan City community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 65-year-old Brenda Bernucho, whose unexpected death has left her family, friends, and loved ones struggling to understand a tragedy that has forever changed their lives.

Officers with the Morgan City Police Department were dispatched to the area of Pine Street and Maple Street after receiving a report concerning Bernucho. Upon arrival, officers located her deceased inside the residence. Investigators at the scene observed signs of foul play, prompting detectives to immediately begin working to determine what had happened and who might be responsible for her death.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified 49-year-old Whitney Joseph Billiot IV of Morgan City as a suspect. According to police, investigators obtained evidence they believe connected Billiot to Bernucho’s death and established probable cause for his arrest. Billiot was subsequently taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail in connection with Bernucho’s death.

For Brenda’s family and friends, however, an arrest cannot undo the pain of losing someone they loved. Her death has left a deep sadness throughout a community now remembering her life while trying to cope with the circumstances surrounding her passing.
