Thursday night turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Hidalgo County as a devastating head-on collision claimed the lives of two young people and left two others critically injured. The crash occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. on Aug. 14 along Texan Road, south of Freedom Avenue and north of Palmview. According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a blue Ford Fusion was traveling southbound when a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound crossed into the opposite lane. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing devastating injuries. Jonathan Tellez-Sosa, 25, of Peñitas, was identified as the driver of the Ford Fusion and was pronounced dead at the scene. Brianna Yatziri Saucedo, 19, of Mission, was also killed in the collision while riding as a passenger in the Chevrolet Malibu. Their deaths have left families and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss.
